Family hikes
► Hauser Kaibling summit (2,015m) - circular route
After a half-hour ascent, you have reached the summit of the Hauser Kaibling and thus also the highest point of the Schladming 4-mountain ski area. After a souvenir snapshot, an entry in the summit book and enjoying the view of the Enns Valley, you continue via the “Rossfeldsattel” to the natural gem of the Kaiblingalm. There, the Kaiblingalm shelter invites you to take a break and enjoy the views. While the parents enjoy their coffee with a view of the Dachstein massif, the children can play in the playground. Return to the mountain station via the children's adventure trail. Along the way, 5 puzzle stations and much more await the children. The puzzle map is available at the Schutzhaus Kaiblingalm and with the correct answer you will receive a surprise gift at the valley station ticket office.
►Children's adventure trail to the Kaiblingalm (suitable for baby carriages)
The children's adventure trail from the Kaiblinggrat mountain station to the Kaiblingalm offers fun puzzle stations for young and old. At the ticket offices of the valley stations you can get the puzzle card for € 5.00, which you can use to crack the solution word station by station and pick up your surprise gift at the ticket offices. Our “sheep family Wolle” will accompany you all the way and help you solve the puzzles. The FLYING FOX, our summer snow bobsled run, great viewpoints, beautifully situated rest areas, a slackline and lots of exciting play stations await you.
Leisurely hikes
► Sheep sense circuit
After a quick ascent with the cable cars, you can hike around the summit of the Hauser Kaibling on our Schafsinn circular trail over a distance of 5.6 km (walking time: 2 h 25 min.). Whether you are a hiker or a walker, our circular trail is suitable for everyone. It consists of two sections, the slightly longer part (1 h 45 min.) is intended for sure-footed hikers, while the shorter section (40 min.) is also suitable for leisurely walkers and baby carriages.
The longer part of the trail (1 h 45 min.) runs below the mountain station of the 8-seater chairlift “Kaiblinggrat”, descending slightly to the viewing bench (with information desk above the reservoir). The trail then climbs to an altitude of 1,950 meters and leads deeper into the main Alpine ridge. Later, the trail leads to the interesting Schafsinn research area and on to the wonderful Kaiblingalm from where you can enjoy a unique view of the Dachstein massif.
The shorter route (40 min.) is perfect for all those who prefer to experience our magnificent mountains on foot or even with a baby carriage. Following the safe forest path, you will reach the Kaiblingalm after approx. 40 minutes - just like the route description above. TIP: The children's adventure trail with lots of fun puzzle stations also runs along this path, so the children certainly won't get bored and you'll be at the beautiful Kaiblingalm in no time at all. The hosts of the Kaiblingalm serve delicious food and homemade juices. Our tip: try the soothing and wonderfully fragrant elderberry juice :-)
The Naturfreunde Schutzhaus Kaiblingalm also offers overnight accommodation.
► In the footsteps of the pioneers (trail 780)
What wild, brave guys they were - in 1907, a handful of adventurous young locals set out to build the very first mountain hut here on the Hauser Kaibling. They laid the foundation stone for today's skiing and hiking paradise.
On our new themed hiking trail, you can virtually hike back in time. Over 8.2 kilometers, uphill or downhill, you can immerse yourself in the more than 100-year-old history of mountain sports. Packed into exciting short stories, you will learn all about the first hut, the construction of the first cable car and how it came about that you can now float up the Hauser Kaibling in gondolas. The new themed trail has a good 1,000 meters of elevation gain and nine stations.
The Naturfreunde Schutzhaus Kaiblingalm also offers overnight accommodation.
► High trail to the Moaralmsee
Ascent over the Hauser Kaibling summit (2,015m) and on to the “Rossfeldsattel”. Then follow trail no. 45 in the direction of Moaralmsee. Varied descents and ascents await you, as well as a narrow rocky passage - until you reach the turquoise-green Moaralmsee in the midst of magnificent high mountain scenery. There are two options for the way back:
Option I: Follow the same path at the foot of the Bärfallspitze back to the “Rossfeldsattel”. Then continue to the natural jewel Kaiblingalm, where the Kaiblingalm shelter invites you to take a leisurely break. Return to the mountain station along the children's adventure trail.
Note: No dogs allowed from Rossfeldsattel.
Hiking cab: advance booking required on +43 664 200 44 44
► Mountain tour to the Bärfallspitze (2,150m)
Follow the Schafsinn circular trail to the Rossfeldsattel. From there, follow the signs on trail no. 45 towards Bärfallspitze. In approx. 45 minutes you will reach the Bärfallspitze and enjoy the wonderful panoramic view of the valley. The descent is via trail no. 780 to the Kaiblingalm, where the Kaiblingalm shelter invites you to take a break. The children's adventure trail takes you back to the mountain station.
Alpine hikes
► Alpine tour to the Höchstein (1,584 m)
You can start the tour to the Höchstein either a little more leisurely via the Kaiblingalm, or a little more athletically via the ascent to the Hauser Kaibling summit (2,015m). The ascent continues on trail no. 780 to the Seeschartl (beautiful view down to the Moaralmsee) and through round humps and along huge rock debris to the Kaiblingloch saddle. Afterwards, the route is steep and partly secured over scree and rubble to the next saddle. Climb over rock steps on the west ridge to the summit. The framing by the Schladminger Tauern and the view of the Enns Valley make for a magnificent panorama. The return route follows the same path back to the mountain station.
► Hauser Kaibling - Höchstein - Moaralmsee
From the mountain station of the Schladminger Tauern cable car or the Quattralpina 4-seater chairlift to Hauser Kaibling, head south past the transmitter mast and over a striking grassy ridge up to the summit cross of Hauser Kaibling (2,015 m). Continue south along the open ridge and down through mountain pine fields to the Rossfeldsattel. Continue on trail no. 780 under the Bärfallspitze to the Seescharte. After a short flat section, the path becomes steep again - there are a few wire ropes under the Zwiesling for protection. The last few meters to the Gifpel are once again very challenging and lead over rocky climbing terrain to the cross. After a long rest at the summit, the route leads down the north-east ridge to the Filzscharte. The path leads downhill over rough boulder terrain with intermediate protection but without any major difficulties. At the Filzscharte (2,213 m), the path to the Hans-Wödl-Hütte branches off to the right. Our next destination, the Moaralmsee, is on the left-hand side; we reach the beautifully situated lake after the descent on trail no. 781. If you follow the little stream that leaves the mountain lake, you come to the alpine pastures in the Gumpental. However, our route takes us along the steep slopes of the Bärfallspitze, which are covered in grass and bushes, back to the Rossfeldsattel (trail no. 45). From here, we take the shortest route following trail no. 780 to the starting point at the cable car mountain station.
